About

Sjoerd van Wijk is a filmmaker, writer, and journalist from Nijmegen, the Netherlands.

Driven by curiosity, he is a lifelong learner who enjoys sharing insights with the hopes of inspiring reflection in others. Trained as an economist, he transitioned into the arts as a journalist, publishing film reviews across various platforms and currently contributing to FilmTotaal. Music, his first love, continues to be a passion as he writes for the Dutch-Flemish magazine Gonzo (circus).

Longing to stand behind the camera rather than sit in front of a screen, Sjoerd created the independently produced short film Yearmates, which won the award for International Comedy Short at the Garden State Film Festival. His second short film, The Tripsitter, debuted in his hometown at the Go Short International Short Film Festival Nijmegen.

His work delves into the complexities of human character, intertwining personal drama with philosophical insights on life. Sjoerd has a particular affinity for those living on the margins of society and often blurs the lines between dream and reality in his narratives. As a fiction writer, he explores these themes further, with his short story The Study Group selected for the inaugural anthology of Coffin Bell Journal.
